Service providers now invest in digital advertising with greater confidence and efficiency; aggregators benefit from increased visibility and better control of traffic flows; and operators are able to protect their brand image, strengthen user trust, and drive sustainable growth. These are just some of the advantages that the ongoing partnership between DCB security company Evina and South Africa’s self-regulator WASPA have brought about in just four years.
South Africa stands as a key country in the global landscape of mobile payment security, a laboratory of innovative payment solutions and, at the same time, a target for some of the most sophisticated and professional fraud attempts. Its strategic position makes it a vital link in the global chain of payment protection.
Over the past four years, the alliance of WASPA’s commitment to compliance and Evina’s advanced anti-fraud technology has played a decisive role in eradicating DCB fraud in the country.
“We’re delighted to celebrate our 4-year partnership with Evina,” says Noelan Rungasamy, General Manager at WASPA. “Thanks to the outstanding quality of Evina’s solutions and the joint efforts with all WASPA members, the compliance rate has significantly improved. Continuous market monitoring has enabled us to detect and correct bad practices, leading to a cleaner and safer market for end users.”
“WASPA has shown exemplary leadership in building a fair, transparent, and secure mobile ecosystem in South Africa. Their proactive approach and unwavering dedication set a benchmark for the entire industry, and we are honoured to continue this journey by their side,” adds David Lotfi, CEO of Evina.
The anniversary comes hot on the heels of WASPA forming a strategic partnership with the UK’s MCP Insight to make MCP NET the proactive compliance and monitoring platform for South Africa’s mobile content industry.
The partnership marks a significant evolution in how mobile services are monitored and escalated: shifting the focus from reactive complaint handling to real-time oversight and early intervention. The initiative builds on WASPA’s 21-year track record of self-regulation and is already driving measurable impact across the market.
The announcement follows a successful Proof of Concept (PoC) trial, delivered by MCP Insight, which demonstrated the effectiveness of structured, technology-enabled compliance workflows. The three-month trial involved a control group of WASPA members and saw significant reductions in the volume, severity and repetition of compliance issues.
Results included 208 issues referred within 36 hours of discovery and more than 113,000 consumer journeys testedfor compliance – without drawing on internal WASPA resources. It also saw a 95% reduction in Red (high-severity) issues, a 64% reduction in Yellow (medium-severity) issues and a 91% drop in repeat issues among trial participants. There was also a 4.5% increase in overall compliance compared to just 0.03% in the broader market.
As AfricaCom approaches – now renamed Africa Tech Festival, where our own head of strategy Anzelle Robertson will be speaking – Evina looks forward to connecting with partners and peers to celebrate this milestone, explore the future of secure and innovative mobile payments in Africa, and forge new partnerships that will further strengthen the region’s digital security landscape.
