The telemedia value chain was founded (in the 1990s) on the ability to generate and switch very high volumes of premium billed voice traffic. It was therefore a natural step to incorporate mobile data traffic / bulk SMS messaging into the very fabric of the industry. Today SMS and a variety of other messaging applications are an integral part of a wide range of mobile payment and engagement solutions, including PSMS, A2P messaging, RCS messaging, OTT messaging apps, Payforit, credit card authentication – to name but a few.

With the advent of smartphones and the ever increasing popularity of mobile marketing, messaging has become the most effective way to engage and communicate directly with customers – who find it easy to block ads and emails, but still find their mobile screens “irresistible”. Messaging is a fast growing space, as it is used as both a billing and marketing tool, and it is perhaps here that we see some of the most exciting and challenging developments in the marketplace. With A2P SMS services becoming ever more prevalent, the A2P messaging market is exploding in size, and the launch of rich communications services (RCS), alongside “in app” messaging & billing, it presents further opportunity for businesses to provide a full omnichannel messaging platform and participate in the conversational commerce revolution.

However the traditional business SMS messaging industry has not gone away, with wholesale SMS still in big demand, with bulk SMS marketing still giving good results across the world, hence the continued demand for a bulk SMS service provider. The wholesale messaging business remains in healthy form.
