Northern Angel Investment platform established in Leeds shortlisted for top award

An Angel Investment platform, established by aql CEO and Founder Dr Adam Beaumont, has been shortlisted for a UK Business Angels Association award for Best New Entrant.

NorthInvest is a not for profit company that is owned by its investors and mentor members and aims to promote equitable investment across the North of the UK. The idea is that it provides deal flow on a neutral cost basis.

It works in partnership with pan-Northern organisations in the public and private sector to ‘accelerate ideas’ by helping businesses unlock new sources of funding.

The Board includes expertise in biomed scale-ups and university innovation, space tech, incubation and ecosystem, mergers and acquisitions, and also economic development.

NorthInvest has been shortlisted in the category of Best New Entrant to the Angel Ecosystem at the UK Angel Investment Awards 2017 alongside many notable contemporaries.

NorthInvest founder Dr Adam Beaumont said: “When I founded NorthInvest in late 2015, my aim was to help support business owners throughout the North by providing investment or access to funding, to enable them to progress their ideas.

“I’m passionate about inspiring the next generation. I believe NorthInvest is the platform that can help us achieve this. Northinvest already works with companies from across a range of industries, including healthcare, education, collaboration tools and technology for social change.”

NorthInvest offers Angel Investment and mentoring to help businesses improve their offer, while connecting them with the right partners, mentors and ecosystem.

The platform also acts as a gateway to larger funds from larger institutional investors, and the team is also in the process of constructing a co-investment fund, aimed at businesses that have a focus on job creation in the region.

The UK Angel Investment Awards will be held at The Dorchester Hotel in London on Thursday 6 July, hosted by entrepreneur and UNICEF ambassador Emma Sinclair MBE.

Adam is a key driver of innovation, infrastructure and enterprise in Leeds.  His company, aql, was the first partner of the Northern Powerhouse and a major sponsor of Leeds 2023, the city’s bid to become European City of Culture.
