Connected Consumers
Connected consumers are users who engage with digital services across multiple devices, platforms, and channels – often simultaneously. They are mobile-first, always online, and expect seamless transitions between apps, websites, messaging platforms, and connected devices. This group is not just tech-savvy – they’re experience-driven, comparison-minded, and comfortable switching providers or services if expectations aren’t met.
They engage with brands through social media, messaging, mobile apps, OTT content, and smart devices – often blending discovery, communication, and purchasing in one journey.
What it means for telemedia
For the telemedia ecosystem – which depends on attention, engagement, and recurring monetisation – connected consumers pose both an opportunity and a challenge. They demand convenience, speed, and consistency across every interaction, whether that’s signing up for a VOD service on mobile, continuing it on a tablet, or receiving reminders via WhatsApp.
Telemedia brands must ensure their services are optimised for multi-device use, support cross-channel continuity, and allow flexible billing and authentication. Features like smart login, unified subscriptions, and real-time messaging become essential.
Example in use
A carrier-branded mobile video service allows users to begin watching content on their smartphone and resume seamlessly on their smart TV. Subscription billing is tied to the user’s mobile number, but content access is synced across devices via cloud-based authentication.
The service also sends personalised recommendations and expiry reminders via SMS and push – keeping the user engaged regardless of device.
Why it matters
Connected consumers are the norm, not the exception. To stay competitive, telemedia providers must offer seamless, flexible, and consistent experiences – or risk losing subscribers to more agile or better-integrated platforms.
Meeting the expectations of connected consumers can drive longer session times, higher ARPU, and stronger loyalty – but only if services work where, when, and how users want them to.
